The new US TNT factory part 2: Where TNT came from before
We will be discussing where the US was supposed to be getting TNT before now. This was a fortune of war headache for the military and private industry. It was coming from Ukraine, specifically a region that was taken over by Russia. That means that Russia has control over a TNT factory, unless it was destroyed. That seems like a tactical advantage to me.
Now, the contract came during the end of the first Trump administration, which was not unusual in any manner other than it was part of the military industrial complex way of applying contracts. The name of the company was Zarya, which is also the name of a popular character on the video game Overwatch, if you want to research a company that does not seem to really exist anymore.

The Contract
Here, via PR Newswire, is how the contract worked out.
Global Ordnance LLC ("GO") announced that, in the 4th quarter of 2019, it executed a Five-Year Teaming Agreement with Research and Production Enterprise Zarya LTD. ("Zarya") to Import Trinitrotoluene (TNT) to the United States (U.S.) for Defense and Commercial applications. GO is proud to partner with Zarya who has a long history of producing and supplying high quality TNT in the US and abroad. GO recognizes Zarya's significant production and testing capabilities and is bringing this skill, expertise and capacity to the U.S. to support both military production and commercial mining applications.
GO was established in 2013, and is a veteran-owned small business serving Government and commercial customers in defense and national security markets to procure, inspect, transport and deliver both standard and non-standard ammunition, weapons and materials along with importing and distributing explosive materials to the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) / U.S. Military, U.S. Military Allies, State, Local Law Enforcement agencies and commercial mining companies.
Zarya was founded in 1917 as an Explosives production facility located in the Lugansk Region of Ukraine. Zarya has been producing TNT since 1949 and achieved MIL-DTL-248D compliance in 1999. Zarya became a private equity company in 2010 and has an annual production capacity of 10,000 metric tons of virgin TNT.
Battles for Plant
The factory has been the scene of several battles, which shows how important it is.
Here is from the Russian State News organization TASS:
https://tass.com/world/1450427
The forces of the Lugansk People’s Republic have liberated a major chemical industry facility in Rubezhnoye and combed the industrial area, the Lugansk people’s militia said.
"The LPR people’s militia has liberated the Zarya plant," says a statement uploaded to the militia’s Telegram channel.
According to the published video, the flags of Russia, the LPR, the Chechen Republic and the Red Banner of Victory were hoisted over the main entrance to the plant. The advancing forces sustained no losses during the operation to put the plant under control, the people’s militia said.
Here, from Syrian Arab News Agency, is a little more:
Security units of Luhansk People’s Republic revealed that the Ukrainian army booby-trapped the Zarya chemical factory with 49 tons of explosive materials before withdrawing from it.
“The Ukrainian army left behind a warehouse full of explosives and about 49 tons of TNT stored in the warehouse of factory No. 406, warning that these explosives could cause massive destruction and lead to a global catastrophe due to the presence of substances near them that contain in their composition ammonia, nitrogen, sulfur, acids, benzene and other dangerous substances.” RIA Novosti Agency quoted the republic’s security units as saying in a statement.
Needless to say, this was a failure for the US and shows one of the reasons that Russia attacked.
This may seem to be getting a little into a topic than is needed, but this contract is important. Later on, it will be shown why, especially from the viewpoint of Global Ordnance.
